This event relies on sponsorship, we know that times are hard, the entrants to this event are the future of athletics and need supporting, funds secured are channeled into transporting our Junior and Youth teams around the country to compete with the elite of there age ranges. Last year with a lot of hard work from the athletes, officials and parent supporters our Junior team gained promotion to the Northern Premier League, we would like to see our Youth and Senior teams follow them into higher divisions. The Cyril Elliott Open attracts athletes from all over the North East of England and is the first major event in the North East Track & Field season, for further details about sponsorship packages contact jill@middlesbroughac.org.uk

Congratulations to Adebayo Babatunde who has been picked to represent England at Bratislava, Slovakia, very well done and all the best from everyone at the club, its well deserved.
Teesside athlete Adebayo Babatunde has been rewarded for his fine early season form with a call up for his first international competition.
Babatunde, has been selected to compete for England in his specialist event of the triple jump in Bratislava, Slovakia on the 31st of January. Already this season has seen him in record breaking form adding almost a metre to his own North Eastern Championships record at Gateshead on the 9th of January with a then UK leading leap of 15.27 metres.
The Berwick Hills athlete then followed up this performance with his first ever Senior North of England triple jump title at Sheffield last weekend. On learning of his selection Babatunde thanked his mum Pauline, his coach of 11 years Rick Betts and others such as strength coach Matthew Wright of Teesside University and for their help in getting him to this stage in his career. He said “it's a great honour and it wouldn't have been possible without a lot of help from a lot of people over the years and I hope it I can be a bit of an inspiration to other young athletes in my group and my club”
Babatunde flies out to Bratislava on the 29th of June before returning to compete for Team Newcastle in the Indoor City Challenge at Sheffield two weeks later.
