25.02.17 ECCA Saucony English National Cross Country Championships, Wollaton Park, Nottingham

The weekend started off with a bang with the Middlesbrough AC (Mandale) under 15 boys taking team gold at Woolaton Park in Nottingham. The team was led by Patrick Haycock in in his best race ever taking a highly creditable 12th place in the individual race. Closely behind the other three members of the team ran well together with Daniel Currie in 27th place, Archie Lowe in 32nd and Daniel Payne in 34th position. The team scored 105 points to beat the highly fancied Aldershot team who scored 187 points.

In the individual races Philippa Stone (Middlesbrough AC Mandale) featured in one of the closest medal races of the championships. Competing in the under 20 women’s age group race Philippa was in the leading group for much of the race and in the final 200 metres found herself in a tussle with Surrey champion Niamh Brown of Aldershot, Farnham and District AC prevailing to win a magnificent bronze medal by just one second.

In the under 17 men’s race Josh Cowperthwaite was again in great form at national level in the under 17 men’s race. Although this time Josh missed out on a medal Josh ran a very strong race to finish in fourth place overall.

Other results James Hughes in 60th in the u13 boys, Laura Havis 140th and Betty Bergstrand in 143 Rd in the u15 girls with 470 finishers! Ben Bergstrand 59th in the U17 boys Ben Palmer 228

All of the cross country runners will now be setting their sights on representing their counties at the English Schools Championships in two weeks’ time.

19.02.17 NYSD Cross Country Richmond Old Racecourse

The club had 20 athletes entered u11's 3 boys and 6 girls, the u13's 3 boys picked up the 3rd place team points, and we had 2 u13 girls, 2 u15 girls and 1 u15 boy, 2 u17 boys, and 1 senior man.

Many thanks to Shaun Purkiss and Richmond & Zetland Harriers members for their efforts in putting another excellent meeting. The conditions were ideal for some good competition between the various age groups from under 11 to senior level. This being the last meeting for individual and team points, things look like being pretty close in some of the age categories.

The next meeting is the Road Relays which will be at Croft Circuit, Dalton, Near Darlington on Sunday 12th March. The trophies and medals will also be presented at this meeting.

Hope to see you all on the 12th.

Regards

15.01.17 NYSD Ormesby Hall

Our club had a good showing of under 11s with 12 in total, 11 juniors and 3 senior/vet runners

My thanks the Richard Fawcett, Paul McGough and the members of North York Moors A.C. for their terrific efforts in putting on the meeting. This is the first time we have used this venue and I think everything went off very well, the course was well marked out and marshalled. The mud adding an extra element to the course (if you took any mud home the trust would like it back please).

The next meeting will be at Acklam this coming Sunday 22nd
