Remember that after next Tuesday, entry fees go from £2.00 to £4.00 per event and your name will not appear in the event programme. So please support your club and your coach. Its your chance to start the season with a good pb. 

This is our clubs premier event and starts our club' outdoor track and field season, funds secured at this event are channeled into transport costs for the Junior and Youth teams around the country to compete with the elite of there age ranges. Last year with a lot of hard work from the coaches, athletes, officials and parent supporters our Junior team gained promotion to the Northern Premier League. We would like to see this year our Youth and Senior teams follow them into higher divisions.

If you've some spare time and not entering The Cyril Elliott Open, Jill the organiser is still looking for people to help out, as officials on the track or field also to help out in the canteen and other jobs, e-mail Jill if you can at jill@middlesbroughac.org.uk If you cannot but know of someone who might like to help out, pass on these details, the more people we have helping the more slick the meeting will go and we will all have a fantastic fun packed day.

, to all the mums and dads associated with our club, here's a small way to help with getting equipment for the club. At Sainsbury's and Tesco they are having there annual promotional voucher giveaway for schools and clubs. Last year we were able to collect enough Tesco vouchers to order a set of agility ladders and a first aid kit. Pass any you can to the snack bar on Tuesday nights or on to a coach, if you can ask were you work and see if you can collect from there.

bulletAVIVA England Athletics U20, U17 & U15 Indoor Championships, Rachel Highfield and Patrick O'Connor came away with medals at the recent National Age Group Championships in Birmingham. Also competing was Harry Harris in the 60m sprint came 2nd in his heat with a new PB of 7.01, then went through to the 3rd heat of the Semi-Final coming 3rd narrowly missing out on the final but got another PB of 6.99. Amongst the outstanding results from all the athletes, Ben Spencer came 8th in Under13 and Emma Wortley 41st in U13 girls. Teesside athlete Adebayo Babatunde has been rewarded for his fine early season form with a call up for his first international competition.

Babatunde, has been selected to compete for England in his specialist event of the triple jump in Bratislava, Slovakia on the 31st of January. Already this season has seen him in record breaking form adding almost a metre to his own North Eastern Championships record at Gateshead on the 9th of January with a then UK leading leap of 15.27 metres.

The Berwick Hills athlete then followed up this performance with his first ever Senior North of England triple jump title at Sheffield last weekend. On learning of his selection Babatunde thanked his mum Pauline, his coach of 11 years Rick Betts and others such as strength coach Matthew Wright of Teesside University and for their help in getting him to this stage in his career. He said “it's a great honour and it wouldn't have been possible without a lot of help from a lot of people over the years and I hope it I can be a bit of an inspiration to other young athletes in my group and my club”

Babatunde flies out to Bratislava on the 29th of June before returning to compete for Team Newcastle in the Indoor City Challenge at Sheffield two weeks later.
