Chris Tomlinson

England Olympic International Athlete, and Bronze Medalist at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona. 2011 regained his British Long Jump record in Paris with a leap of 8.35m. He started his dream with Middlesbrough AC (Mandale), Chris was born in Middlesbrough and started to develop as an athlete in the sprints section under the guidance of Brian Davison.

It was obvious to all that Chris had a talent that could be nurtured. At the tender age of 11 there were many twists and turns in this young mans life and careful guidance was essential. Middlesbrough AC (Mandale) along with their wealth of top coaches and depth of experience were ideally suited to this task.

Chris started in the youth section and competed for Middlesbrough in the Premier League, this league allows athletes to try all events and decide where their strengths and love for events lie. He soon made his mark but after success in the 100 and 200 metres decided his event was the long jump, since that day, Chris never looked back and now is an establised Great Britain team member.

Paul Thurlow

In May 2011 the club was shocked to hear about the tragic death of Paul Thurlow

A big thank you to all of you who attended Paul's funeral at St. Bernadettes and gave him the celebration service that he deserved so much. Amongst at least 250 people crammed into the church, were many current and former athletes, coaches and committee members of Mandale.

A quote from a poem included in the service - 'think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched, for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much'

Thank you Paul
