England Athletics (North East Region), Is one of 9 regions in England with 63 clubs and over 7000 club members, and the smallest in England. The home to a number of well known athletes, including current international athletes:

Event Report
Faye Winspear and Kayleigh Sullivan notched notable double wins in the annual Cyril Elliott Memorial open meeting at Clairville.

Faye took both sprints while her Middlesbrough AC (Mandale) team-mate Kayleigh Sullivan won the javelin and discus. In the senior men's events, Richard Morrell had a fine win in the 1500m. In the disability events there was triple success for Ian Thompson of New Marske Harriers in the shot, discus and 400m.

The Under-20 age group was dominated by Middlesbrough AC athletes with Ashleigh Wood leading the way with three wins in the shot, sprint hurdles and 100m.

In the latter event Wood led the club to a clean sweep of medals from Jess Kennedy and Emma Stokes. Stokes then went on to take the 200m. Sofiya Pela led a one-two in the 400m event from Jenny Phelps who then went on to win the triple jump. Kristina Grant was first in the 1500m.

The Middlesbrough club's Under-20 men were also in fine form with double wins for Nick Phelps and Richard Yuille.

Phelps took gold in the 110m hurdles and his specialist 400m hurdles, while UK Schools medalist Yuille won the seated shot and discus events. Charlie Dryden and Joe Corrigan took the honours in the long jump. Grant Hawkins was winner over 1,500m while Joe Cox took gold over 400m and silver at 200m.

Fastest female performer of the day over half a lap was in the Under-17 age-group in the form of Kate Welford, who was untroubled as she took both the 100 and 200m. There were wins for Helen Corrigan Sarah Parsons and Christina O'Connor in the hammer, shot putt and triple jump events. Parsons also claimed second place in the discus with Emily Fields taking second in the 400m

Winners for Middlesbrough AC in the Under-17 men's section were Ben Stevenson and Christian Carson and Jordan Gill in the 100 and 200m and long jump. Silver medallists were Jordan Gill (triple jump), Lee Burrell (100 and 200m) and Jack Chapman (javelin and hammer).

Second places went to Gill, Iain Swall and Jack Chapman in the triple jump, shot and javelin. Star performer in the under 15 girls section was Eleanor Mullen, who won the 100 and 200m.

Taking the silver and bronze medals in the 100 and 200m was Mullen's training partner Rachel Highfield.

In the field there were wins for Hannah Gapper and Hannah McLean in the long jump and high jump. The only local winner in the Under-15 boys' section was Ashley Gray in the long jump.

Matthew Jeal took second place in the boys shot and was third over 200m.

Jordyn English was a comfortable winner of the Under-13 girls' shot and Lucy Wood claimed the bronze in the sprint hurdles.

Liam Watson and Jack Farrow filled the first two places in the Under-13 boys' shot with Watson also winning the 800m.

Sam Day claimed silver in the 75m and 150m and bronze over 800m.

Charlie Myers took bronze in both sprints. In the youngest age group Hannah Raine won silver in the 60m, 600m and long jump with team-mate Madeline Metcalfe taking bronze in the 60m and 600m.

In the Under-11 boys' section, Aaron Jeal took first place in the shot to add to his second in the long jump.

Club adds its 1000th member
Jill King, the Membership Secretary for the last 24 years had the pleasure of welcoming to the Club Liam Watson of Ingleby Barwick, at the Cyril Elliott meeting. Liam's father Steve represented the same club 25 years ago as a pole vaulter.

The Club had its own database and numbering system until 2000 when England Athletics set up a national database. Each athlete receives their own unique number but the Club carries about 200 paid up members from Under 11's to Seniors based at Clairville stadium.

Liam receives a free Club vest and hoodie and had his photo taken at the recent Cyril Elliott Track & Field meeting alongside Founder members Roy Bradley and Mike Starford, Jill King and Steve Watson.
