The Middlesbrough
based group
have benefited this winter by having numerous sessions under the
watchful eye of Dave Smith
and are hoping to carry their early season form into the forthcoming Championship season. Also in the Hammer circle at Under 20 level the fourth member of the training
group Kayleigh Sullivan showed impressive early season form by moving into seventh place on the seasons rankings. Sullivan finished off a busy day also winning the Discus and Javelin events.
Busiest
Middlesbrough Athlete of the day was easily Scottish Under 17 Indoor Pentathlon Champion Ashleigh Wood. Wood competed in and won 4 events including the 100m, Long Jump, High Jump and Sprint Hurdles. The Under 17 women continued to impress with a lifetime best equalling performance from UK Schools Bronze medallist Chloe Gill in the Triple Jump.
In the
under 13 age group there were
impressive doubles for Rachel
Highfield and Matthew Routh in the 75 and 150metres races, although Routh was made to work hard in the
latter by débutante Ashley Gray of Yarm School.
North East Indoor Shot Putt Vanessa Jacques was equally as impressive in the field at under 15 level winning the Shot and Discus with ease.
The under 17 men of Middlesbrough AC despite not being able to match the quantity of their female counterparts showed quality with 15 year old Joseph Cox improving his personal best in the 400m by almost two seconds when finishing a creditable fourth in the senior men's' race. Nikhi Ncube also smashed his personal best in the 800m when claiming the Bronze medal in the 800metres.
At under 20 level Jayme Norton ran superbly to record a time of 61.0 seconds to win the women's' 400metres despite having to contend with very strong winds. As most athletes did throughout the day.
For the under 20 men the outstanding performance came from Charlie Dryden in the Triple Jump. Dryden improved his best in this event by over half a metre to lead a clean sweep for the Club with a personal best of 13.77 metres. In second and third places were Nick Phelps with a personal best and Liam McDonnell. However both athletes had been in action earlier in the day and both showed great form with wins in the 400m hurdles and 400m flat races respectively. Debo Babatunde moved into the UK top 20 with an impressive throw of 12.95metres in the Shot Putt.
At senior level Faye Winspear fresh from her exploits in reaching the finals of the British Universities Championship had comfortable wins in both the 100 and 200 metre races.
The committee of Middlesbrough AC (Mandale) would like to take this opportunity to thank all those hard working individuals who helped to make this event a success in spite of the inclement weather in the afternoon. Special thanks go to the organiser Jill King, Graham Hall who provided a first class results service and to the officials who despite the downpour helped to ensure that the events programme went a smoothly as possible.
