NYSD 2007 - 2008 U15 Girls Team final position

Congratulations the U15 Girls Team, are the overall winners of this years NYSD events, this is the second year, a fantastic achievement.

NYSD, Final Competition 2008 Season, Richmond 16.03.08

On a blustery, windswept, otherwise perfect winters afternoon, a limited team of Middlesbrough AC (Mandale) athletes, depleted because of the conditions and Inter Counties Championships competed at Richmond old racecourse.

The events location has terrific views across the North York Moors, and towards the coast at Teesmouth, however because of today's weather, the cooling towers and flare stacks of Teesside were obscured. Horse Racing had been held here until the end of the 19th century, it was discontinued because the horses became too fast for the relatively small and uneven course.

The now ruined grandstand, built around the end of the 18th century, stands forlorn looking out over the gallops, it made a fantastic focal point for the challenging course which took full advantage of the terrain, results:

Well done to all the athletes that have entered the 'NYSD cross country races' over this season and thank you to all coaches and parents who have attended and there encouragement. To our Cross Country Manager Sue Penny and helper Julie Maguire for organising our athletes well done. Many thanks also to the 'NYSD organisers' especially Graham Hall of New Maske for getting the results published so quickly.

A Special thank you to Michael Higgins for taking along and putting up the club tent hours before races especially today, Michael said ''this season, had been the warmest season that he has attended!'. Not forgetting Dave Wilkinson for the reports that he sent in this season, which kept us all up to date with what was happening.

Summary: many thanks to Dave Wilkinson for this, and to all the coaches attending today, thanks to Sue Penny the Cross Country Manager and helpers; not forgetting Michael Higgins for transporting and erecting the club tent keeping everyone in the shade for a change!

Spring like weather was the order of day for 6th race of the season, taking many athletes by surprise, once again overall numbers in all races were down on the series.

U13 Boys only 2 runners from the club. Mathew Rhodes producing a gutsy run to finish in 2nd place, continuing his consistent placing, supported once again by Robert Wilson in 9th position.

U13 Girls only 2 runners Emilia Mack and Lauren Cuggy, 10th - 11th respectively, sharing the same time.

U15 Boys no athletes

U15 Girls Stephany Allison in 6th place, Emily Fields 8th Jessica Wilkinson 10th , Rebecca McGuire 12th and Emily Watkins 20th. Once again winning the team race and the series; Well done.

U17 Men Adam Morrell running the 1st race of the Season for the club and winning the race by a massive 1min 47secs our only participant.

Vet Ladies. No club athletes

Sen Men Andrew Wiles in what I believe to be his final race for the club won the race by a comfortable margin, well done and good luck with your new club. Adam Mitchell once again supporting the club in all the League races over the past 5 years finishing in 7th place 26.28 after a tussle with Ken Harker of Richmond & Zetland Harriers.

NYSD Cross County results, Caedmon School Whitby, 13 Jan 2008

The ever popular and testing Whitby Cross Country Course, the first League race of 2008 was held in very windy conditions, but the wind thankfully held off the rain clouds, which threatened to spoil the event. A well organised day of Cross Country running, all the races seemed to be down on numbers, due to the heavy calendar of events during January and the Schools County Championships to be held during the next week.

U -13 boys. Mathew Rhodes once again consistent in 3 rd position, well supported by Robert Wilson in 9 th position.

U-13 girls only 1 athlete. Faye McCluskey in 3 rd position, ever consistent and the find of the Season for the club.

U-15 boys. Nick Wooley in 9 th position our only representative in a very competitive age group.

U-15 girls our girls were well beaten for the first time this year in the League, by a very strong City of York team. Emily fields in 11 th position, Rebecca Maguire 14 th , Jessica Wilkinson in 16 th ,Emily Higgins in 19 th and Emily Watkins in 23 rd.

U-17/20/sen/vet Women No club athletes competing, Middlesbrough & Cleveland Harriers took the team event with 1 st ,2 nd ,4 th and 7 th position.

U-17 men No club athletes.

U-20/sen/vet Men only 1 club athlete competing Adam Mitchell (u-20) consistent in 9 th position.

Report from the 4th North Yorkshire South Durham Cross-Country League held at the Flatts, Thirsk

Thirsk & Sowerby Harriers put this alternative Course on at the Flatts, Thirsk at short notice due to the restrictions on the use of the Racecourse.

Despite the flatness of the course it turned out to be a rugged test for all participating athletes. The constant rain thoughout the races turned parts of the course into a traditional muddy XC event. Many thanks to the organizers.

Unfortunately, Middlesbrough AC numbers were well down on previous League races. However, well done to all our athletes who braved the wet, cold and windy conditions.
