After the event the Gordon Surtees coached athlete said “I had been hoping to go under eight minutes, so was pleased with my run and my time, but I realise that although I'm moving in the right direction I still have a lot of work to do to be up there with the very best”.

Nine Middlesbrough based athletes are on their way to Cardiff to represent Team Newcastle in the UK athletics Inter City Cup Final at Cardiff this weekend. Fresh from his personal best in last weekends Aviva International over 3,000m at Birmingham Jonathan Taylor will be hoping for a good performance over the shorter distance of 1500m.   Another athlete rounding into fine form is 16 year old Ashleigh Wood. Wood who won the Scottish under 20 Pentathlon Championships at the weekend will be competing in the women's Long Jump.   Middlesbrough AC athletes in the team include North of England Champion Charlie Dryden (Long Jump), North East Record holder Ade Babatunde (Triple Jump), Chloe Gill (Triple Jump), Nick Phelps (400m) and Richard Morrell (Relay-800m).   Other Middlesbrough based athletes in the team are Suote Nyananyo (Newham and Essex - 60m hurdles) and Stacey Smith (Gateshead – 800m).
